![]() One of the most startingly human movies made in 3dmm, Pikios shows us the eventual demise of a community loved by many, as all anyone can do is watch. The scenery in this movie isn't the best, but it doesn't have to be, everything is portrayed just as it should be. Animation is great, as always by Pikios, but the real gem in the movie is the emotion. People stop skating, fishing, or whatever, and just watch in horror as the world they know crumbles. A drunk guy in a bar smashes the TV. People cuddle up closer, waiting for the end. Pikios himself has tears running down his face, watching it all from some airport. A while ago, I expressed wonder about the symbolism of this movie, and was told "It's just about meteors hitting things." What? The movie is called Rebirth of 3dmm! Hover the costume changer over nearly every single actor in the movie, and it tells you which fucking community member they are! This is clearly about the death of the 3dmm Community, which I suppose makes the title slightly ironic. It works very well, and adds a slightly human side to the community. Maltby and Ward lay back in a chair, calmly accepting their fate. Brad Ross, Matt Ford, and Steve Astill are all fishing, and as the meteors appear they stare up at the sky in wonder. This movie is like War of the Worlds in that it isn't about the end, it's about how people react to it, and in that aspect, it works perfectly. I'm not sure quite what's going on at the end. Are they in heaven? Did they survive? Whatever the answer, it's just not important, as Pikios has shown us exactly what he wanted us to see. Review by Tom Bown. |
